Trust in the Lord

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

What is life without purpose?  It’s like being on a journey that lacks a final destination.  Where is the anticipation, which exists as the journey is being walked?  Where is the sense of achievement that comes when the goal is completed?  There is none.  It is a pursuit empty of passion, of direction, of clarity, and of vision.  It is a blind, pointless trek void of any lasting meaning, which over time, drains the human spirit of its strength and resolve.  This is not in our nature.  This is not how God intended His creation to live.

Since the Garden of Eden, mankind was created with a purpose and a goal.  He was formed to have fellowship with his creator and to be the keeper of the garden.  These were his objectives, his goals, and his passion.  And he pursued them not with a sense of forced obligation, but willingly and with a sense of fulfillment.  If it is true that there is a place for everything and everything has its place, then this was Adam’s ideal environment.  And all evidence indicates that he was happy.  And why was he happy?  Because he lived with a purpose.  A purpose that was ordained and established by God. And God has a life-fulfilling plan for everyone.

Pursuing a life goal apart from God’s direction and counsel  is really a journey geared towards temporary satisfaction, if any at all.  Will those benefits, once achieved, be eternally rewarding?  Will they reinforce one’s relationship with his creator?  Will they be in harmony with the complete life that God pre-ordained for every individual?  How can they be when such a pursuit was begun without God’s influence.  But when a person chooses to seek his creator’s direction for their life, they are not only grafting their present life to their past origin with God, but they are also extending it into their eternal destination beyond this present  world.  The life that we live today and the things that we do are meant to be the beginning of an eternal satisfaction that will be without end in the presence of God.  And what exactly should that life consist of?  It will be made of the decisions and occupations in which we find purpose and fulfillment in and that honor God and develop an ever-growing relationship with Him.  But that kind of life doesn’t come easy or cheap.  It will require the kind of trust that enables one to place their life into the hands of another.  But when we place our lives into the hands of God, He will not disappoint us because He has already invested the life of His only son, Jesus Christ, that we might have an opportunity to live the life He intended for all mankind.  So, live with purpose, direction, and passion.  Live a fulfilled life for eternity.  Live with God.
